Who are Dartmouth's top administrators and what role do they play at the college?

Dartmouth is led by President James Wright, who has served as President since 1998. Wright, a historian specializing in American history, arrived at Dartmouth as an assistant professor of history in 1969 and has held a series of leadership positions at Dartmouth during one of the most eventful eras in the College's history. He is the 16th president of Dartmouth.

Provost Barry P. Scherr is directly responsible for overseeing the overall academic integrity of the entire institution and for those operations transcending the work of a single faculty. Dartmouth's professional schools, major academic support units, and several other offices, academic centers and institutes report to the Provost.

Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Adam M. Keller is responsible for managing the financial, physical, and human resources of the College. Keller has served as executive vice president since 2003.

Dean of the Faculty Carol L. Folt is the first woman to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Dartmouth, and is responsible for academic matters in the Arts & Sciences, including undergraduate departments and programs and Arts & Sciences graduate programs. Folt has served as dean since 2006; prior to that, she served two years as interim Dean of the Faculty. Folt is also an award winning biologist and pioneering environmental scientist.

While Dean Folt oversees the academic life of Dartmouth's undergraduates, Acting Dean of the College Daniel M. Nelson '75 is responsible for the out-of-the-classroom life of our students, with overall responsibility for the supervision, coordination, long-range planning and budgeting for student life programs including residential life, athletics, and student organizations.

Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Maria Laskaris is a 1984 graduate of Dartmouth, overseeing the admission of each year's undergraduate class. Reporting to the provost, the dean oversees all operations of Dartmouth's Office of Admissions and Financial Aid as well as the supporting positions of director of admissions and director of financial aid.

Vice President for Development Carrie Pelzel oversees the fundraising efforts of the College, including the $1.3 billion Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience.

Vice President for Alumni Relations David Spalding is a 1976 Dartmouth graduate. Spalding heads an office that maintains close connections with, and helps foster connections among, Dartmouth's approximately 60,000 alumni.

Vice President for Information Technology Ellen Waite-Franzen leads Dartmouth's computing services, which encompasses all computing infrastructure and architecture, applications development, and instructional and research support.

The Vice President for Communications position is currently vacant; Special Assistant to the President Sheila Culbert is serving in the position on an interim basis.
