Who gets into Dartmouth and why?

Admission to Dartmouth is highly selective. The College attracts the most talented and motivated students. Dartmouth admits qualified students who show promise to become tomorrow's leaders and students who will be enthusiastic contributors to the campus community.

In recent years, about 14,000 prospective undergraduates a year have applied to the College. Dartmouth students come from all 50 states and approximately 40 other countries. They are equally split 50/50 male and female. About 30 percent of them are students of color. Around 2/3rds of students attended public schools and 1/3 private and parochial schools.
