Were the funds for the varsity football building on the capital campaign priority list BEFORE alumni heard about the Furstenberg letter?

The Floren Varsity House was not originally included in the Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience. When Buddy Teevens '79 returned to Dartmouth in 2005 as the Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach, he made clear the need for upgraded facilities and President Wright and Athletic Director Josie Harper supported his request.

The facility will provide varsity athletes with a much-needed strength training center, meeting rooms, football locker room and equipment facilities, and offices for football, baseball and two women's sports. Campus life, including athletics, is one of the four strategic imperatives for this campaign.

It is rare that projects slated for a later date are added to a campaign, once it is underway; however, the need to maintain competitive strengths across the institution occasionally require that some priorities be expedited.
