How much did it cost to acquire the Wenda Gu piece that was installed in Baker Library this term?

Wenda Gu's exhibition "the green house," now on display in Baker Library, was funded by Hood Museum of Art endowment funds and a grant from the LEF Foundation. The museum does not disclose fees or payments for exhibitions or the acquisition of works of art, except where acquired at public auction. Hood Director Brian Kennedy tells us that to reveal such amounts could have an adverse effect on the museum's ability to acquire artwork, as it could diminish the museum's buying power in the market by revealing information about the College's budget capacity for such acquisitions; and it can also be in breach of commercial-in-confidence arrangements with an artist. That said, Kennedy tells us that the fee for the exhibition is "a small fraction" of the rumored $1.5 million that's being mentioned on some websites and blogs.
