Are classes ever cancelled because of snow?

Given that Dartmouth is a residential college, at which the vast majority of undergraduates live in on-campus housing, closing for “snow days” is rare. Most recently, Dartmouth curtailed its operations during the “Valentine’s Day Blizzard” of 2007, when up to two feet of snow blanketed New England. While classes were postponed, many of the core operations continued, including dining services and facilities maintenance. The decision to cancel or curtail operations at the College is made on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration a number of factors including storm forecasts, travel conditions, and other issues that impact the health and safety of Dartmouth’s students, faculty and staff.
