Every two years Dartmouth surveys graduating seniors about their satisfaction in a number of areas relating to their Dartmouth experience. The most recent data, for the Class of 2006, shows high levels of satisfaction with their experience and their education. For example, 91% said they were “generally satisfied or very satisfied” in their overall satisfaction with undergraduate education – a number that has steadily increased from 89% for the Class of 1998. Similarly, 96% said they were satisfied with the overall quality of instruction at Dartmouth, and 98% said they were satisfied with the out-of-class availability of Dartmouth faculty. 91% said they were satisfied with the size of their classes; 94% were satisfied with the courses in their major fields; and 97% were satisfied with the quality of Dartmouth’s classrooms. 97% were also satisfied with the opportunities for extracurricular activities, and 91% were satisfied with extracurricular speakers, cultural offerings and events. All but one of these categories saw increases in satisfaction from 1998 (satisfaction with size of classes went from 92% in 1998 to 91% in 2006), with the largest increase the climate for minority students.
