Board of Trustees

Has the Board ever specified or made changes to its size?

Yes: the Board has expanded three times prior to the September, 2007, vote to add eight new members. Dartmouth's 1769 charter set the Board's size at 12. In 1961 the Board sought approval from the New Hampshire legislature to increase its membership to 16. In 2003 the Board sought home rule legislation from the New Hampshire legislature to amend its own charter and voted to increase the Board up to 22 trustees, including the College's president and the governor of New Hampshire (ex officio).
